Longford Sports Partnership Research
Sport Ireland Research Aims
The research aims to inform strategies, improve programming, and ultimately increase participation, particularly among target groups. Here's a breakdown of the research landscape:
Participation:
LSPs conduct research to understand participation levels, identify barriers to involvement, and develop targeted programs to increase participation, especially among women, older adults, people with disabilities, and those in disadvantaged communities.
Club Development:
Research focuses on supporting clubs, coaches, and volunteers, and fostering partnerships between clubs and community organizations.
Coach Development:
LSPs investigate the experiences of coaches, particularly those working with young female athletes, and explore the support they provide regarding the menstrual cycle.
Physical Activity and Wellbeing:
Research examines the impact of different exercise delivery methods on physical and psychological well-being, particularly among older adults.
Impact of Abuse:
Some research explores the impact of domestic abuse on children's sports participation and identifies barriers to their involvement.
Women in Sport:
Sport Ireland is funding research to establish priorities for women's sport in Ireland and to develop a co-production collective for Irish women in sport.
Value of Sport:
LSPs research the social, economic, and cultural impact of sport in Ireland.
